Year 6 – Gold Class

Year 6 Teacher

Mrs Torreiro

Welcome…

My name is Mrs Torreiro, I’m the class teacher in Year 6 (Gold Class) and I’m also the Phase 3 Leader, Curriculum Leader and subject leader for French at Morden Primary.

Learning in Year 6 is full excitement, challenge and fun! It is a big year of learning with the SATS in the Summer Term, but Year 6 is so much more than that. Some highlights of the topics we teach are: ‘Ancient Greece’ and ‘The Early Islamic Empire’ in History, ‘Evolution and Inheritance’ and ‘Light’ in Science’, ‘Making Burgers’ and ‘Building Bridges’ in D&T and learning about school and families in French.

Across the year, there is a real focus on resilience and responsibility for our own learning journeys as we take the next steps towards our future. We develop team work skills in some exciting projects across the year and create some wonderful memories and shared experiences. There are also leadership opportunities in Year 6 with House Captain, Head Girl, Head Boy and Deputies nominations and elections at the start of the year.

My favourite subjects to teach are French (no surprise there!) Maths, Reading, Science and P.E.! Every year I always look forward to our school trips, from nature trailing in Morden Hall Park to a day of rides at Chessington World of Adventures! Another passion of mine is outdoor learning and I do try to use the whole of our school environment as much as possible in our learning. This is great point to mention one of my favourite points in the school year – our residential trip to Sayers Croft!

As a child, my favourite books were the Mr Men and The Worst Witch. As a parent, I loved reading Charlie and Lola and Horrid Henry to my children and now I really enjoy historical fiction, finding out about key events from the past through the eyes of wonderful characters.
